Cancer cells are different from nomal cells in some aspects. Cancer arises from the abnormal and uncontrolled division of cells, known as caner cells. These cells multiply and contiune to increase in numbers and starved to death for lack of nutrition. They are not confined to any one part ot the body; and penetrate and infiltrate into the adjoining tissues. They dislocate their function and many times cells are detached from the main mass of the original sites and travel through blood to another new site, know as secondary growth and metastasis. Cancer may either by slow or fast growing depending on the tissue character they occur and the type of cancer. Rapid growing cancer are more dangerous as they send metastasis to other organs of the body such as liver lymph, glands grando etc.

Types of cancers :-

1. Carcinomas :
* Adenocarcinomas : These affect the lining on the solid organs such as lung, intestines etc.
* Squamous cell carcinomas or epithelima : These are common cancers of esophagus and head and neck region.
* Transitional cell carcinoma : Affects the urinary system.
2. Sarcoma : Cancers of connective tissues like muscles, bones, fat etc.
3. Lymphomas : These are cancers of lymph nodes but my affect other organs too.
4. leukemia : Leukemia is also called commonly as blood cancer and affects the blood cells.

Early Detection :

Following symptoms are considered.
(i) Bleeding : Non-injury bleeding on skin surface or from any orifice or opening or from a mole.
(ii) A hard base chronic sore not healing especially on the panis
(iii) Pain and tender swelling of the bone and the tissue around it may involve breaking or bone.
(iv) Nodule or lump may be found in thyroid, spleen, neck, breast, muscles, extremities etc.
(v) Painless or painful swelling may be found on one side of the neck, abdomen.Sometimes pain in the upper abdomen; enlarged and painful testes. Painless swelling with hard base in the cheek etc.
(vi) Dysphagia.
(vii) Poor appetite.
(viii) Feeling of tiredness.
(ix) Loss of weight.

Risk Factors :

(i) Tea and coffee.
(ii) Alcoholic stimulants.
(iii) Meat- eating.
(iv) Smoking.
(v) Tobacco chewing.
(vi) Exposure to frequent X-rays.
(vii) Worriment of mind - It weakens nervous system and lowers nerve power.
(viii) Enforced vaccination.
(ix) Oral contraceptives for avoiding pregnancy.
(x) Early marriage and frequest pregancies.
(xi) Having sexual reations with different partners.
(xii) Menopause are susceptable to uterine cervix cancer.
(xiii) Industrial or vehicular pollution.

Physical examination of the patient :

To see appearance of the patient, properly nourished, weight loss, pain and depression if any, check up the temperature, pulse rate, breath rate, blood pressure or any swelling. Check for splean enlargement

Tests to be carried out for :

(i) Urine Test- to be examined physically, chemically, microscopically and bacteriologically.
(ii) Stool Test - for blood, pus and mucus.
(iii) Sputum test - for purulent, containing pus or blood. Microscopic examiniation of bacteria and recognition of cancer cells.
(iv) Blood Tests - for Haemoglobin (Hb), RBC, WBC, ESR, DLC and other investigations i.e. platelet cound, bleeding time, clotting time and blood group as per advice of the oncologist.
Aslo CT scan, Ultrasound and Biopsy may be done of the suspicious tissue.
Cancer is not a local disease but is constitutional one. We must see that the constitutional stamina is good, and must raise the nerve power, the vitality of the patient. The eye, The pulse and the tongue show that the organs of the body secreting properly, good digestion, a strong, full, regular pulse. Weakend vitality shows disease. Pulse of a cancer patient is weak, often a discouraged feeling and quicker than normal. The weight and feeling of the muscles show lack of nutrition. Tongue in advance cancer has dark red colour and in the last stages we have ‘beef steak’ tongue. The white of the eye has a pearly tint with greenish yellow spots showing a drain upon the system, toxic matter in the blood and decomposition of albumen. Eyes show whether the glands are acting normal, and tongue shows the position of digestion. Without proper digestion of food, patient can not have good and pure blood in his system. The pulse tells of about the vital forcess are strong or weak depending upon the quality and character of the pulse. Tongue coated white or yellow on the base of the tongue show that the patient is not digesting his food properly. If the patient has natural movement of the bowels it is a favourable symptom. But in advanced case of cancer, more obstinate is the constipation.

Diet :

Open fresh air, fresh green leafy vegetables and fruits, their juices must be made special diet. Overeating, intake of spices and animal protein are harmful. Vitamins must be added. Spinach, carrot, turnip, chukkandar, papaya, apple, grapes, sweet orange, raddish, mausammi juice, sugarance fresh juice, lemon juice and juice of green peas or gram, goat- milk, munaqqa (raisin) at night. Fresh fruits rich in potassium like grapes, apples etc.

CANCER AND THE HOMEOPATHY

A Collection of cells of the same kind is called tissues and finally collection of tissues constitutes various organs of the body such as heart, Lungs, Liver etc. Cancer cells are different from normal cells in some aspects Cancer cells develop from abnormal and uncontrolled division of cells and start destroying the surrounding cells for lack of proper nutrition-starved to death. Cancer is not confined to one part of the body but they may infiltrate into the adjoining tissues they are either slow or fast growing which are more dangerous as they send metastasis to other organs of the body such as liver lymph, glands etc. Lung is most commonly involved. It is not a local disease but a constitutional one. Cancer develops on the platform of strong syco symphilitic affection pulmonary T.B. & Diabetes are frequent findings. It is important to know that the worry and anxiety weakness the nervous system and lowers the nerve power. Meat eating increases death rate. Tea & Coffee weakens the nervous system and the coats of the stomach producing many disorders such as indigestion. If the nerve power, falls below the normal standard. It creates the chances of invasion of cancer easily. Alcoholic drinks raise high mortality of cancer. Tobacco chewing, Oral contraceptives for avoiding pregnancy, too early marriage and frequent pregnancies, sexual relation with other partners are also causing factors. Menopause is susceptible to uterine cervix cancer.
Certain symptoms are considered for early deduction of cancer-
1. Non-injury bleeding on the skin surface or from any orifice or from a mole
2. Sudden Change of a mole
3. Hard base, chronic sore specially on the penis-not healing easily
4. Painless or painful swelling may be found on one side of the neck, abdomen, and cheek etc. enlarged & painful testes.
5. Any nodule or lump. The contraction of breast nipple and secretions of blood or bed smell from it.
6. Bleeding in stool or urine.
7. Feeling or Tiredness, Dysphagia.
8. Loss of weight, poor appetite.
Main types of Cancer are Carcinoma, sarcoma, Lymphoma and Leukemia which is also known as blood cancer where immature or abnormal blood cells are over produced in the bone-marrow and the blood forming organs. To watch they eyes, the Tongue and the pulse is quite useful. If the white of the eye has a pearly tint with greenish yellow spot show toxic matter in the blood and decomposition of albumen. Patient feels better on its removal. Eye give an idea whether the patient is digesting his food properly. Good digestion helps in improving blood quality and thus health. In abdominal disorders, the tongue is coated yellowish and white coated generally in liver, in advanced cancer a dark red color of the tongue is seen where as beaf streak tongue is seen in the last stage of cancer. But if the patient is improving, the tongue is clean and of pleasing light red color. A weak pulse of a cancer patient shows discouraged feeling and quicker than normal, if our remedy is responding well to the body discouraged feeling is removed and pulse is felt strong, further and more regular consequently organs start secreting properly, any remedy or treatment that weakens the vitality of the patient, lessens the chance of recovery. Cheerful surroundings to the patient is useful in curing.

OBESITY

Dr. Rajendra Kumar

Obesity is a condition in which an excessive accumulation of fat takes place in the body due to intake of food in excess of its physiological requirements. It is a nutritional disorder. Over - nutrition or under - nutrition is known as malnutrition. When the body weight increases against a particular height of an individual person, this excess of fat in various parts of the body is called obesity. It is classified into three types as follows depending upon the excess in body weight

Above normal/standard weight
(i) Midly obese 10 to 15%
(ii) Moderately obese 10 to 20 %
(iii) Very obese it can be classified as 20% or above
(a) Exogenous - Due to excessive intake or over- eating
(b) Endogenous - Can be caused by an inherent metabolic disturbance of the body that promotes obesity. Classification of fat may be baed upon the age of on set - Juvenile onset and adult onset.

Normal/Standard weight can be calculated from ‘height - weight chart’ given below:

Adult Female
Height (ft. inch) Weight (kgs)
4’ - 10’’ 43.50 - 48.50
4’ - 11’’ 44.60 - 50.00
5’ - 0’’ 46.00 - 51.50
5’ - 1’’ 47.20 - 52.50
5’ - 2’’ 48.50 - 54.00
5’ - 3’’ 50.00 - 55.30

Adult Male
Height (ft. inch) Weight (kgs)
5’ - 2’’ 53.50 - 58.50
5’ - 3’’ 55.00 - 60.30
5’ - 4’’ 56.20 - 61.70
5’ - 5’’ 57.50 - 63.00
5’ - 6’’ 59.00 - 65.00
5’ - 7’’ 60.80 - 66.70

In an adult female, for a height of 5’-0’’ ideal weight is 100 lbs. For each additional inch, one musth multiply the inches by 5 to get additional weight such as for a woman of 5’-4’’ height- her weight = 100 + () = 120 lbs (53.60 kgs). For an adult man, for a height of 5’-0’’, ideal weight is 110 lbs. For each additional inch, one must multiply the inches by 6 to get ideal weight. For example, and adult male of 5’-8’’ ht. the ideal wt. = 110 +() = 158 lbs (70.50 kgs.) A margin of 10 % plus or minus be considered for ideal weight. Excess wieght increase in man usually deposit first on abdomen, chest, back, back of neck, thighs and arms in order where as in female, first deposit occur in hips first then abdomen, neck, thighs and arms in order. For large or small body frame, the above norms of the chart may be considered with ±5% variation. There are certain factors which are involved and responsible for producing obesity such as : Age, sex, socio - economic status, over- eating, Eating habits, intake of beverages, Frequencey of intakes (meals), Alcoholic intake, Physiological causes, Heredity and Harmones.

Adverse effects of obesity :

(i) Obesity reduces the life expectancy.
(ii) It may produce physical disability such as herina, varicose veins, osteoarthiritis etc.
(iii) Liable to fall down.
(iv) Metabolic disorders like diabetes mellitus, gout, gall bladder stones etc.
(v) Hypertension leading to heart troubles or damage kidney.
An excess of 10 calories per day can result in an increase of 10 lbs in a period of 10 years and an expenditure of 3500 cals. will result in loss of one lb. of weight. If 1000 extra cals/day are expended, there is a possibility to lose 2 lbs. or nearly 1 kg. of weight per week of course a slow process.
To control obesity, it is very useful to understand what to observe and what to aviod.
(A) To Observe :
(i) Reduce calories in the daily diet.
(ii) Increase intake of nutritive diet rich in vitamins and minerals.
(iii) Reduce fats, fried items, sugar and starch.
